This coffee represents a significant milestone in our company. It is the first time we have bought 20 bags of the same coffee. It feels great because it represents a more sustainable purchase for the farmer and a more consistent coffee offering for longer for us. We tasted a tonne of new coffees before settling on this as our new main espresso offering and as you can tell we are excited to bring it to market.
Like with most of our coffee offerings we bought it through Nordic Approach because of their quintessential approach to the coffee industry. The natural flavours of this coffee are complex with notes of almond and dark chocolate with hints of wild honey.
Extra information about the coffee:
This specific lot is made up of coffee from producers in the surroundings of the village Flor de Selva in La Coipa. They are smallholders with 1-3 hectares each, and are located in high altitudes. La Coipa is in the San Ignacio region, one of the main producing regions in the north of Peru. The producers are part of a coffee quality program and are all organic certified. The producer premiums are high and fair compared to many other programs, but the expectations of quality are also much higher.
The altitude ranges from 1600 - 2100 masl and the farms are mainly planted with Caturra, Pache and Bourbon. The farmers have their small individual benificios where they depulp, ferment, wash and dry the coffee themselves. Fermentation time is normally between 13-18 hours. Drying takes 12-20 days. The lots are evaluated separately before they are approved for this high quality communal producer blend. The farmers are part of a program called Solidario where they receive training on farm practices and post harvest production.
