Tasting notes: Toffee, Apple
Varietal: Caturra, Catuai, Villa Sarchi
Roast style: Espresso
Harvest: April 2022
This is our first year with this coffee. Our good friend Keith who does direct trading from origin to Ireland imported these for us. When we first tasted it we were really impressed by how good it was. Lovely mouthfeel/body, long after taste, well balanced chocolatey sweetness with nothing negative in the cup.
This coffee is cultivated and harvested with love and care by approximately 200 families in the mountains of the beautiful region of Los Santos and on the western section of the Talamanca mountain range between 1,200 and 1,500 meters of elevation.
It is an area characterized by young soils, beautiful landscapes and large mountainous depressions, a cool but dry climate completely influenced by the Pacific slope and a very well-defined dry season between the months of December to April, which allows its producers to harvest an extremely ripe fruit.
In this beautiful region, which goes from the Aserrí hills to the Dota mountains; We find happy, brave and simple people, where normally the coffee farmer's family is fully immersed in the activity, because in Los Santos everything revolves around coffee, which from time to time is accompanied by the cultivation of jocotes, avocados and or in another mills, which grinds sugar cane, to produce delicious preserves.
In Tarrazú the cultivation of varieties such as Caturra and Catuaí predominates, and in recent years there has been a major renovation with varieties such as Obata, Marsellesa, different types of Sarchimor such as San Isidro and Victoria; as well as some hybrids; as part of the coffee farmer's continuous search for sustainability.
